Book Review: Las Vegas Weddings: A Brief History, Celebrity Gossip, Everything Elvis, and the Complete Chapel Guide

I recently read a copy of "Las Vegas Weddings: A Brief History, Celebrity Gossip, Everything Elvis, and the Complete Chapel Guide" by Susan Marg, published in 2012. Here is my review:

WHAT IS IT ABOUT? This book is 304 pages of everything about Las Vegas weddings: history, famous celebrity weddings from the posh to the farcical, with special attention to all of the scandalous goings on of such celebrity icons like Liz Taylor, Elvis Presley and Britney Spears, as well as a look at the matrimonial industry of Sin City. A new book is $14.39 on Amazon while used books are available. There is no ebook addition.

WHY SHOULD YOU READ IT? If you want to know which chapel the brightest stars got hitched in,and what happened when they tied the knot, then this is the book for you. Yeah, Liz and Brittney get some extensive coverage, but the king of Las Vegas Weddings is definitely all things Elvis Presley. Elvis lovers (and I am one) will love the details of the "The King's" life that Marg shares.

WHY SHOULD YOU NOT BUY IT? This is Marg's first book and it shows. The research and the stories are well done, however this book is part Las Vegas Wedding, part celebrity gossip and a large part history of Elvis. A more experienced author would probably have done a better job of melding the three elements into a more seamless and enjoyable whole. Also, the information on Las Vegas wedding chapels is a few years old and needs updating.

MY BOOK RATING (0-10): Fine stories and a lovely look at a fascinating historical topic. This is a debut book and no doubt the author will improve for the next time around.

LAS VEGAS WEDDING TIP: Careful What Guests You Invite

It seems that what happens in Las Vegas does not always stay in Las Vegas, as two wedding guests fund out: there are times you should not act crazy. This can only come from the news of the absurd as the Las Vegas Sun passes on an Associated Press report that two men have been sentenced to probation from an altercation at a Las Vegas Wedding.

It seems that the two defendants were one time wanna be Hells Angels but had been denied membership to the biker clan, so they crashed the Las Vegas wedding of a rival. It didn't take long before the wedding turned into a brawl with rival gangs members from Hells Angels and Mongols squaring off against each other. Well, the wedding would have been memorable.

Lesson learned? Be careful in inviting Hells Angels and Mongols as guests. Otherwise your Las Vegas wedding might get more memorable than you bargained for.

Valentine's Day is for Las vegas Weddings - But Also to Pop the Question

The upcoming Valentine Day is not only one of the big Las Vegas Wedding events of the year, but it also seems to be a popular day to pop the question. All around the city young couples tend to catch the romantic air and end up getting tied. So where is a good place to pop the question in Las Vegas?

This really depends on what you like and what your budget is. Just like planning a wedding in Las Vegas, planning the spot to show your romantic chops and impress your significant other depends on what the two of you like. However I have my own opinions, and I still think the best place is a romantic dinner. My favorite romantic places are:

Jasmine - at the Bellagio, modern fusion Asian food with a lovely dining room opening to an astounding view of the Bellagio lake. Time the question for when the dancing fountains.start their show.

Eiffel Tower Restaurant - across the street at Paris. Great view of the strip and the staff regularly works with people to make the meal take a romantic turn: roses, champagne, delivery of a ring in a dessert, etc.

Hugo's Cellar - classic Vegas steakhouse at the Four Queens downtown. Impeccable service and the restaurant normally gives the ladies a rose.

But, uff-da.Romantic dinner on Valentine's Day? On Valentines Day? Yeah, better get a reservation well in advance. Like, well now.
